Lying two and a half miles to the South of Woking, the village of Mayford is a small rural community surrounded by beautiful green belt land. The area is popular with walkers and cyclists who enjoy the many footpaths and bridleways that criss-cross the surrounding fields and woods.
Saunders Lane runs East to West along the foot of the Hook Heath escarpment and is yet again under threat from property developers Martin Grant Homes.
The property developer Martin Grant Homes has submitted a planning application to Woking Borough Council to build around 300 residential units on two sites, North of Saunders Lane in Mayford.
Martin Grant Homes has owned land in Mayford since at least 1958. An official council document from 2001 also states that a "remainder of the affected land" had been owned by the company since 1981.
The company has a long history of submitting planning applications for housing developments on this land in Mayford, with records of applications dating back several decades.
